Job Description:

Empire State College's Hudson Valley Center seeks applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty member in Community and Human Services, with interdisciplinary expertise in the following areas: human service delivery; community development (change and action) with an emphasis on working with traditionally underrepresented and underserved populations; human services agency administration; social and public policy; and ethics.  This position is based in the Hartsdale Center in Westchester County, NY. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in his or her area(s) of expertise and will be a generalist who is able to design and guide independent and group studies in a wide variety of areas. The role of faculty mentor entails mentoring students in both individual and group learning settings, reviewing work regularly with students, and ultimately providing narrative evaluations of the students' work. It also entails working collaboratively with colleagues at the center level and college-wide, and offers the opportunity for some on-line teaching through the Center for Distance Learning, as well as work in the Graduate Programs.

Empire State College was founded in 1971 as a comprehensive, public college within the State University of New York.  A recognized leader in offering innovative degree programs for motivated adults, the college enrolls over 18,000 students annually in associate, bachelor's and master's programs at 35 locations across New York State and online.  The college is committed to building a culturally diverse faculty and multicultural learning environments.  Faculty work with students in one-on-one, seminar, residency-based and on-line learning modes at the graduate and undergraduate levels; the mix varies by setting.  Central to the faculty role is helping adults from diverse cultural backgrounds design and complete individually designed degrees.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university is required in an academic area related to the Community and Human Services field.  The successful candidate must have the potential to effectively mentor and teach adults from diverse backgrounds, actively participate in institutional governance, and pursue scholarly interests.  Teaching experience at the college level is expected. Successful candidates will also have strong communication, organizational, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the human services sector.  Demonstrated success in working with adult students

Special Information (i.e., weekend hours, travel, etc.): Regular travel will be required in the fulfillment of center and college-wide commitments.  Office hours will vary to accommodate student needs.

 


Additional Information:

Rank/Salary: Salary begins in mid-$60,000 range for beginning assistant professor; higher for more experienced assistant professor or associate professor rank.
